Laboratoires Villefranche: Brochas |
Generally speaking, the ones who have time to waste tend to spend it with those who have not: and this explains my presence here!
When I could not renovate old furniture any more I had to find myself something to do. Hence, I consulted the Oracle and the answer was: Brushes! And I started making some for myself and some friends. Later made some for a friend who is a soap maker here in Italy, but the trend, evidently, evolved toward something more elaborate I could not make. After a couple of years I took the remaining ones to make myself a few brushes, so, most of the handles are yet to be finished. The name of the 'maker' is due to a joke as I live in a Godforgotten hole in the flat in a slightly bigger Godforgotten hole South of Milan: Villafranca. So the name has been Frenchified into Villefranche! And 'Laboratoires' was, therefore, due! And here we go, with my awful pictures! The Cucciolo. Cucciolo is the Italian for Dopey, the smallest of the Seven Dwarfs and this tall brush, obviously, deserved to be named so. It has a 30 mm Silvertip knot mounted on a 130 mm briar root (walnut) handle. Links in this message are blocked to guests. But I have seen the nickname has been recycled for other skinny athletes. The one I remember was a short 6 ft black guy: when an opponent smashed with his helmet into his stomach... he barely moved! Quite impressive... And I am celebrating him! It has a Manchurian Finest knot mounted on a Tigrano handle. And this is for personal use only! Links in this message are blocked to guests. Amigo , hiciste un montón de mangos de brochas. Very well done Muy bien hecho Thanks for sharing Gracias por mostrarnos tus creaciones Yo no tengo idea de nada y , además , puedo demostrarlo.

Buona notte! Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk
Very nice, there are a few I really like. My only complaint is the finish, it looks a water based varnish to me, too glossy and masks the beautiful grain in the wood. I prefer a matte finish, try tung oil or a wiping varnish that usually is a blend of polyurethane with tung oil.
Yo solo sé que no sé nada.

These were the samples for an Italian soap maker who added some shaving equipment to his line of soaps, but, first, he chose for more articulate handles and, second, I cannot work any more. Just do some finishing... Thank you Tesite!

' My only complaint is the finish, it looks a water based varnish to me' No water base finish... The fault is mine as I like them glossy! Some want a matte finish and I did it, but, as i said, i prefer them shiny. I did some with tung oil but never used ir in combination with a urethane varnish 'too glossy and masks the beautiful grain in the wood' Somme times it happened, right! But some still show the grain... Thank you for your constructive comments, Alejandro! This image is blocked to guests. Your welcome. What it's nice about wiping varnishes is you can apply it with a rag; easy, fast and no mess. The one I use most of the time is a mix of polyurethane and tung oil, it does not give the thick and durable finish that varnishes provide but I still prefer it.
