Thank goodness we finally have something to talk about during the waiting time avoiding embarrassing silences that embarrassing silences wouldn’t be if people didn’t think they were: what’s embarrassing about keeping quiet, thinking about own’s business, doing a little simplistic introspection and meditating on the purpose of life?
Nothing.
But there is always the need to express your deepest thoughts with meaningful phrases:
"Noticed the heat?"
-No, I was distracted. Excuse me…-
"But it’s not so much the heat as the humidity"
Good! Finally, both the heat and the humidity have arrived, taking us out of the doubts.
But I admit that sometimes I feel involved and I reply with sentences of the same meaning.
-Glad there’s a floor underneath us!-
Some people get a puzzled expression and I feel compelled to explain
-Otherwise we’d sink all the way to China…-
Curiously, often, the perplexed expression increases and I feel morally obliged to explain further: ‘I felt obliged to say a banality too’.
Maybe a friend of mine was right when he said it was lucky I hadn’t gotten into the Diplomatic Service… He claimed that we would also go to war with the Vatican.
But coming to what you’re all anxiously waiting for, here’s the obviousness of the day: ‘My shaving was great!’
With that gear, what surprise could there have been?
